Is Monica AI Free? The 40-a-Day Limit and Monica vs ChatGPT
Monica AI is free to use, but the free plan allows only 40 basic-model uses a day and no advanced models like GPT-6.1 Sol or Claude Sonnet 5.5; Pro costs $99 a year for 200 advanced queries a month. See all four plans, whether free is enough, and Monica vs paying for ChatGPT or Claude.
Monica AI is free to use, with a limit: the free plan allows 40 basic-model uses a day and leaves out advanced models such as GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Sonnet 5.5. To use those you need at least Pro, which costs $99 a year and includes 200 advanced-model queries a month. Monica itself is an all-in-one AI assistant that puts models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google behind a single account, and it runs as a browser extension, a web app, Windows and Mac desktop apps, and iOS and Android apps. We checked every price and limit below against Monica's official pricing page on October 16, 2026.

A few details are easy to miss on the pricing page:
Prices are shown with annual billing. Each paid card says annual billing saves 17%, so the monthly-billing price only appears at checkout.
Basic and advanced are fixed model groups. Basic means Claude 4.5 Haiku, Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite and GPT-6 Luna. Advanced means GPT-6.1 Sol, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Gemini 3.8 Flash.
Advanced Credits are a separate balance. They pay for heavier work such as image and video generation and the AI Agent tools, and they are counted apart from chat queries.
Max used to be called Unlimited. Monica's FAQ says the plan is still in beta and the rename did not change its benefits. The company added Ultra because agent tasks burn far more tokens than chat.
What one Monica account gives you
Monica's main selling point is aggregation: you can switch between OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models in the same chat instead of paying each company separately. Beyond chat, the official site lists:
An AI sidebar and a smart toolbar. Open Monica on any web page, or select text to explain, translate or summarize it.
Page and video summaries. Long articles and YouTube videos are condensed into key points.
AI search. Answers draw on live web results.
ChatPDF and PDF translation. Upload a PDF to ask questions about it or translate the whole file.
Image and video generation. Paid plans can call Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2.5 Flare, Seedance 2.5 and Veo 3.1.
AI Agent tools. Deep Research, slide creation, Image Studio and a Browser Operator that can act on web pages for you.
Monica Code. A coding assistant for VS Code and JetBrains IDEs.
In other words, Monica is not a model of its own. It is a layer that brings other companies' models into the browser and devices you already use, then charges by query counts and credits.
Is the free plan's 40 uses a day enough?
That depends on what you use Monica for.
If you mostly want quick help while browsing, such as translating a paragraph or summarizing an article, 40 basic-model uses a day usually covers it. That is also the most common way people use the browser extension. Image and video generation, ChatPDF and the agent tools are only limited trials on the free plan, so regular use of those features means paying.
If you need advanced models for long-form writing, code changes or careful analysis, the free plan does not include them at all. The question becomes whether Pro's 200 advanced queries a month are enough. At roughly ten queries per working day, 200 lasts about a month. If you go back and forth dozens of times a day, Pro will run out quickly, and Max is the less stressful choice.
Monica vs ChatGPT and Claude: which should you pay for?
The ChatGPT and Claude listings on Toolvori are products from the model makers themselves, while Monica is an aggregator. A simple way to decide:
You rely on one model family. Subscribe to that company's own product. Official apps usually get new features first, and their usage rules are stated directly.
You want to compare several models on the same task. This is where Monica earns its keep. Pro at $99 a year costs much less than two official subscriptions, with the trade-off of a 200-query monthly cap on advanced models.
You work mostly in the browser. Monica's sidebar and select-to-translate toolbar are handier than switching to a separate app.
Keep in mind that a model inside an aggregator may not match the official product exactly in features, context length or rollout timing. If a task depends on a specific model's newest feature, confirm it in the official product first.
What to check before you subscribe
The billing period. The pricing page leads with annual prices, and Max's $199 is a limited-time sale price, so renewal may be charged at the $299 list price.
How far the Advanced Credits go. If you are buying Monica for images or video, compare each plan's credit balance first, because different models cost different amounts of credits.
The device cap. Pro and Max allow five login devices, which a shared team account can exceed quickly.
The official download links. The extension supports Chrome and Edge, the desktop apps support Windows and Mac, and the mobile apps support iOS and Android. All of them are on Monica's download page.
Third-party traffic data from Columbus estimates that monica.im had about 5.09 million visits in September 2026, with around 33,000 monthly searches for "monica ai", which suggests many people are looking up its pricing and limits. You can compare other assistants in Toolvori's AI chat category.
